1. Purify Your Intention
Doing Umrah is more than just a tourist’s journey. It’s an act of worship for Muslims, and for that reason, it’s important that you purify your intentions. This means making sure that you’re doing this act of worship purely for Allah and not to show off, or any other reason.
Having the right intention impacts not only your outlook on the journey but the decisions you make during the journey and the effect it has on you. For example, someone whose intention is to show off to others might spend their time recording their Umrah and posting it online. On the other hand, someone whose intention is sincere might not even touch their phone while they’re performing the Umrah or use it very minimally.
2. Learn How to do Umrah Properly
It’s important for all of us to take responsibility for our own actions and efforts. Rather than relying on a tour guide or blindly following other people around you during Umrah, learn how to do Umrah before you even reach Makkah. Of course it helps to go with someone who knows how to do Umrah properly. However, for someone who takes their Umrah seriously and wants it to be accepted, it’s a comfort to know that the steps you’re taking are correct.
3. Prepare Well Financially
You don’t need to save up exorbitant amounts, but it definitely helps to be well prepared for emergencies. Missed flights, transportation, sudden medical expenses, and all sorts of surprises can come up throughout your journey.
4. Don’t Get Finessed
This goes hand-in-hand with the previous point. While you do want to prepare well financially, you do not want to overspend or pay for things you don’t need. Often, going with a qualified Umrah company that’s well priced (not too much) can actually help in this regard. However you’ll have to do the cost-benefit analysis yourself and see if going with a group works for you.
5. Make the Most of Your Trip
At most, you likely have only a few weeks in Makkah and Madinah. There’s a lot to do in terms of acts of worship as well as sightseeing. This is another area where going with a qualified Umrah company might be of greater benefit. They often have experienced tour guides that go with every group that comes to places like Mount Uhud, Masjid Qubaa’, and Masjid Qiblatain.
